What stays on your iPhone

• The files you attach or share into Scribe (screenshots, photos, videos, recordings, voice notes, PDFs). Screenshots are downscaled to 1600px on the long edge when they are imported, and large videos are re-encoded to a smaller size.
• Transcripts, summaries, answers and your questions, stored in the app's local database.
• Settings, and your OpenRouter API key, which is kept in the iOS keychain.

History is not synced to a server. Anyone who signs in to Scribe on the same phone sees that phone's threads.

What is sent to OpenRouter

To read a file, Scribe sends that file's content (the image, the audio, the video, or the PDF) directly from your iPhone to OpenRouter, using your own key, together with the instructions for how to read it. To summarise a batch or answer a question, it sends the saved transcripts and your question. OpenRouter passes the request to the model you picked in Settings. Their privacy policies, and the policy of the model provider, apply to those requests. Scribe does not send your files to any other provider.

Your account

Scribe asks you to sign in. The account is run by Berth (atberth.com) and holds your name, your email address and your password, which Berth stores for sign-in. Sign-in sessions are kept in the keychain on this device only.

To protect the account, Berth records sign-ups, sign-ins, failed sign-ins and password changes, with the IP address and the device's user agent. These records are filed under your account, and in the app only you can see them. Scribe uses them to ask "Was this you?" about a sign-in from a new kind of device, a password change made elsewhere, or several failed attempts in a day, and to show Recent activity and Signed-in devices in Settings.

Berth emails you codes to verify your address, to sign in with a code, and to reset your password.

What Scribe does not do

• No advertising and no advertising ID
• No analytics or tracking SDKs
• No upload of your files or transcripts to a Scribe server

Notifications

Scribe can notify you when a batch finishes and when there is account activity to check. These notifications are generated on the device.

Deleting your data

Delete a thread from its menu to remove its files and transcripts from the phone. Deleting the app removes everything stored on the phone. To delete your account, email hello@atberth.com from the address you signed up with.

Children

Scribe is not directed at children under 13.
